A criança, o nobre e a cobra.

There are two accounts, one a legend and one historical, of how the snake came to be the emblem of Milan. According to the legend, the city of Milan was once upon a time beleaguered by a ferocious dragon that was decimating the population. Until one day the valiant prince Uberto Visconti set forth into the cave where the dragon was preparing to devour a child. After battling the dragon for two days, Uberto prevailed and Milan was finally liberated. In memory of this exploit, the Visconti family crest was altered to include the image of a dragon holding a child in its mouth, however an unskilled painter changed this to the image of a snake, thus giving rise to the "Visconti Snake".
